You will collaborate closely with the Market Manager and other department leads to plan, organize, and execute daily operations, ensuring that departmental goals are consistently met or exceeded. Duties and Responsibilities:
Product Preparation & Merchandising• Clean, peel, slice, and trim fruits and vegetables for ready-to-serve offerings.
• Prepare fresh, ready-to-serve products such as Sunterra’s freshly squeezed juices.
• Operate and maintain juicing equipment, ensuring proper usage, safety, and sanitation.
• Maintain clean, well-stocked, and properly rotated produce cases and displays.
• Ensure accurate pricing, signage, and product labeling throughout the department.
• Follow established food safety, cleaning, and maintenance procedures.
• Oversee sampling of department products and promote seasonal or featured items.
• Stay informed about new products and ensure proper placement and presentation.
Leadership & Team Development
• Supervise, schedule, and coordinate the activities of Produce Department team members.
• Provide training and mentorship in produce handling, merchandising, sanitation, and safety procedures.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and performance-driven team culture.
• Lead by example in delivering exceptional service and professionalism.
Operational Oversight
• Plan and manage daily department operations, including receiving, stocking, rotation, and merchandising of produce items.
• Forecast and order produce based on sales trends, seasonal availability, and promotional activity.
• Monitor inventory, sales, shrink, and waste; implement strategies to improve efficiency and reduce loss.
• Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety regulations.
Customer Experience
• Deliver legendary customer service by engaging with shoppers and offering expert product knowledge.
• Respond to customer inquiries and resolve issues promptly and professionally.
• Support a welcoming and informative shopping environment that reflects freshness and quality.
Qualifications:
• Proven experience in retail or grocery, preferably in produce or fresh food operations.• Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, motivate, and develop a team.
• In-depth knowledge of fruit and vegetable varieties, seasonality, handling, and merchandising best practices.
• Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
• Customer-focused mindset with strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Basic understanding of inventory control, sales analysis, and budgeting is an asset.
• Familiarity with food safety and sanitation standards in a retail environment.
• WHMIS and Food Safety Certification required (training provided by Sunterra).
Working Conditions
• Standing and walking for extended periods.
• Exposure to temperature variations and wet conditions in refrigerated and prep areas.
• Repetitive lifting of items up to 40 lbs (team lift required for heavier items).
• Use of knives, peelers, juicers, and other produce preparation tools.
• May require reaching, bending, and climbing ladders or stools.
