Duties and Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership & Execution• Support the Market Manager in overseeing daily operations across all departments.
• Ensure consistent execution of Sunterra’s standards for cleanliness, merchandising, and customer service.
• Responsible for opening and closing duties within the market.
• Monitor and maintain inventory levels, ordering supplies as needed to meet demand.
• Check orders for accuracy and sign off on invoices.
• Ensure all standardized recipes are followed without deviation.
• Conduct monthly inventory of assigned orders and follow up with other departments.
• Update and follow up weekly on prep charts to reduce waste and maintain full, abundant showcases.
• Set routines for Team Members to monitor production and productivity levels.
• Ensure proper sanitation procedures are followed, with regular follow-up.
• Attend financial meetings, rollouts, and pre/post-shift briefings.
• Enforce OH&S regulations and WCB protocols, including incident reporting.
• Ensure emergency procedures are understood and practiced.
• Oversee receiving accuracy and cash handling procedures.
• Manage crisis situations with professionalism and urgency.
• Promote Sunterra’s unique service philosophies including Sacred Hours and Sampling.
Customer Experience & Merchandising
• Lead by example in delivering legendary customer service with warmth, attentiveness, and product knowledge.
• Ensure departments are well-stocked, clean, and visually appealing.
• Work in the market to ensure everything is full, colorful, and abundant for service.
• Resolve customer concerns with professionalism and urgency.
• Engage with customers to answer questions and provide guidance.
Team Development & Oversight
• Train Team Members to provide superior customer service.
• Mentor and coach department leads and team members to foster a culture of accountability, learning, and pride.
• Support onboarding, training, and development plans for new hires.
• Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback.
• Coach and develop Team Members on daily tasks.
• Promote a positive, inclusive, and respectful work environment.
• Lead weekly team meetings and one-on-one coaching sessions.
• Conduct structured performance evaluations and succession planning.
• Implement Manager Binder and Red Book tools for accountability.
• Organize team-building events and recognition programs.
• Train team members on Sunterra philosophies including Sacred Hours and Sampling.
• Recruitment and brilliant selector – responsible for identifying and hiring top talent that aligns with Sunterra’s values and culture.
Margin Execution & Labour Management
• Monitor labor and inventory costs to meet or exceed profitability targets.
• Analyze sales trends and operational data to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Collaborate with department leads to ensure portion control and cost-conscious practices.
• Support waste reduction initiatives and accurate inventory tracking.
• Conduct daily follow-up with Market Chef and Team Leads to maximize productivity, labor, rotation, product costs, order execution, and weekly sales analysis.
• Follow up on cash handling procedures and deposits.
• Draft and analyze budgets, forecasts, and business plans.
• Monitor weekly KPIs including sales, margins, and labor costs.
• Use SMS and other systems for reporting and operational efficiency.
Qualifications:
• 3 years of retail or hospitality leadership experience, preferably in a market or multi-department environment.• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Proven ability to manage operations, inventory, and team performance.
• Food Safety and WHMIS certification (training provided if needed).
• Passion for food, hospitality, and continuous improvement.
