They're back!
You may have noticed that less Dutchess strawberries have been available recently. Due to the major cold snap and -40 temperature trends earlier in January, the growth of our plants was temporarily impacted. However, we are happy to announce that we now have limited quantities of sweet and juicy Dutchess strawberries available again!
The crown jewel of strawberries are here!
Try our Dutchess strawberries - rosy and splendidly sweet, these berries from the prairies are grown year-round in our new Sunterra Greenhouse located in Acme, Alberta. Our carefully controlled glass greenhouse facility provides our plants with optimum growing conditions for peak growth all year long. Best of all, each strawberry we grow is hand-picked when fully ripened on the plant and delivered to our markets within 24 hours, fresh from the vine.
Our Dutchess strawberries are delicious on their own, but here are three tasty ways to use them in the kitchen too!
1. Marinate them with balsamic and freshly cracked black pepper.
Though you may not necessarily think these flavours go together, you'd be pleasantly surprised! Adding a couple cracks of zesty black pepper and a drizzle of tangy balsamic helps to bring out the natural sweetness of the strawberries. Serve them in a salad, alongside your meat of choice or on a crusty baguette like the recipe below.
2. Toss them with goat cheese and asparagus in this fresh salad.
Combine hearty asparagus, creamy goat cheese and crisp almonds with juicy berries for a salad that will have you reminiscent of summer. This recipe also includes a tangy dressing made with lemon and apple juices that add a layer of acidity to balance out the sweetness.
3. Plop them into these sweet yet sharp berry tarts.
Whether you love blue cheese or hate it, there's no denying that these tarts have a remarkable flavour. Get your berry fix by adding fresh blackberries, blueberries and strawberries to these bite size tarts. The blue cheese adds a sharp, earthy note that beautifully complements the flavour of the berries.
