How to Enjoy B.C. Cherries at Home

Every year, we bring in the very best B.C. cherries by following the cherry trail, a growing season that starts as far south as Osoyoos and travels up the Okanagan to Vernon. Our supplier Jason spends several days a week in B.C. visiting orchards and buying only the cherries with the best size, flavour and texture. And with no storage warehouses, cherries arrive straight from the orchards to our markets. So how can you enjoy these gems on a stem? Check out the ideas below! 

1. Fresh. This is without a doubt the best (and easiest) way to eat B.C. cherries from our market. Just grab a bag and enjoy!

2. In a cocktail. These don’t *have* to be alcoholic, either — fresh cherries will brighten up any drink you please! Try them with gin, sangria, sparkling wine or even some flavoured tonic water. Shake or muddle the cherries for extra flavour.

3. Roasted. Yep, roasted! The concentrated sweetness of cooked cherries with savoury ingredients is what dreams are made of. Add balsamic vinegar and throw them on a pizza or in a salad.

4. With cheese. Relax on the patio with your favourite wine and a cheese plate to enjoy summer to the max. Pair fresh B.C. cherries with an aged Gouda, Manchego, Gruyère and crackers or macerate them and serve with fresh burrata, like in our recipe here.

5. Baking. With our extra-big B.C. cherries, you’ll need fewer of them to fill up a pie. So make a pie (or two or three to keep in the freezer; you'll thank yourself later), a pan of chocolate cherry brownies, a cherry cobbler (recipe here), flaky turnovers...the list is endless!

6. In a sauce. It seems sacrilegious to boil these beauties, but especially if you have overripe cherries on hand, cook up a compote and serve it on ice cream or pancakes. Check out our B.C. cherry compote recipe here.
