You probably have a favourite type of apple that you grab each week. We're creatures of habit after all. But with all sorts of tasty apples being plucked from top-heavy trees right now, it's a great time to try something new! Just in from beautiful B.C. orchards, here are our fall must-haves:
Ambrosia - Native to B.C., ambrosias are cousins of golden delicious. They are sweet and aromatic with a slightly crisp texture. Plus, they are slow to brown making them a great option for salads.
Gala - A golden delicious hybrid, galas have excellent texture and almost pear-like sweetness, making them very easy-eating apples. 
Honeycrisp - We get these large, crisp, juicy and sweet apples within days of picking, excellent for crunching on.
McIntosh - Originally from Ontario, McInstosh apples are crunchy and sweet but also have a slight acidity with almost a vinous flavour. Use them in applesauce or baking.
Red Delicious - A classic when it comes to apples, red delicious have a mild sweet flavour and a tough skin. Use as a garnish for salads, sandwiches or quesadillas.
Golden Delicious - These apples have a very sweet taste and a delicate exterior. Handle and store them carefully and use in your favourite apple baked goods.
Spartan - From Summerland, B.C., Spartan apples are a "McIntosh style" apple with their bright crimson skin and white flesh. Exceptionally aromatic and juicy, these apples are great for juicing.
