The Soleterra d'Italia Story
In 1927, the Simonini family set up a small processing plant in Modena, Italy and became purveyors of superior Italian cured pork products. In 1970, the Price family founded Sunterra in Acme, Alberta, which grew to become a fully integrated family-run food company with farming, meat processing and retail operations. With generations of expertise in their disciplines, our two founding families came together to form Soleterra d’Italia in 2016, producing salamis, hams and dry-cured meats of uncompromised quality.
All of our cooked and cured meats are crafted using generations-old recipes and techniques from the Simonini family of Modena, Italy. Their unwavering commitment to tradition has made their company, Industria Salumi Simonini, a world-class producer of premium Italian cured pork products for over 90 years. This unique integration of Sunterra’s superior pork and the Simoninis’ trusted Italian recipes make Soleterra d’Italia a name synonymous with quality, and allows us to bring authentic salamis, hams and dry-cured meats to dinner tables across the world.
Soleterra d'Italia Prosciutto
With its simple ingredients yet phenomenal flavour, Soleterra d'Italia prosciutto perfectly represents this collaboration of expertise. This dry-cured delicacy is made with only two ingredients: salt and high quality pork. Its melt in your mouth texture comes from an extended aging time of at least 12 months that allows it to dry from the outside in without needing as much salt as other cured hams. Enjoy it on a charcuterie board or canapé or crisped in the oven on a thin crust pizza.
