Sunterra is a family-owned Alberta based business and we take care of our family. This includes our Sunterra family (our team members) and our extended family (our customers). During this time, we have implemented new measures to help protect everyone within our markets.
Team Member Health
We are monitoring our team members' health very closely and require that team members who feel unwell stay home. While away from work, we continue to keep in touch with our team members and ensure they complete the mandatory isolation requirements and are symptom free before they return to work. We also require that every team member complete a Fit to Work questionnaire and a temperature check before they commence each shift.
Team Member Masks
We have implemented the use of masks in our markets as a measure to help combat COVID-19. In accordance with the City of Calgary Bylaw 26M2020 and the City of Edmonton Bylaw 19408, we ask that all customers wear masks or face coverings while visiting our markets, except when seated. We have provided each of our markets with masks and require all team members to wear a mask as well.
We have made the decision to suspend the self-serve nature of our open salad bars and antipasto bars until further notice. Instead we have increased the variety of our individually pre-packaged salad and antipasto offerings. We have also temporarily removed all in-store sampling stations.
We have resumed the use of reusable bags in our markets. Customers with reuseable bags will be responsible for packing their own bags.
To ensure the safety of our customers and team members, we are pausing the use of cups in our market until further notice. We are aware of the potential environmental impact of this decision and do not take it lightly. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.
We know this is difficult. We have always taken pride in the close connections we have within our community, but for now it is critical we follow physical distancing measures within our markets. Some of the steps we have taken in our markets to support this include:
We have added new signage at our tills. Customers will now see a line on the ground to stand behind safely while the customer ahead of them completes their transaction.
We have removed all tables and seating in our market cafes.
We have implemented contactless grocery delivery services. Order your groceries online in Calgary and Edmonton and we will deliver them to your door.
We are encouraging continued use of our grocery pick up service. You can now wait in your car for curb side pick-up and we will bring your groceries to your vehicle.
Whenever possible, we are scheduling grocery delivery shopping teams to pick online orders before or after our open hours. This reduces the number of team members shopping and processing orders, minimizing traffic for our customers during open hours.
We have installed floor decals and in-market signage to remind shoppers to keep their distance at the tills and throughout the markets.
We have opened additional tills to spread out lineups and serve customers quickly. We have team members who will bag your items quickly so your time in the market is limited.
We have re-routed our entrances and exits to limit high traffic areas prone to bottlenecks.
We are constantly evaluating opportunities for improvements.
Elevated Sanitization and Cleaning Protocols
We have been working closely with Alberta Health Services and have implemented elevated sanitization and cleaning protocols.
We have increased sanitization routines for high touch surfaces such as grocery carts, baskets, tills, department counters, shelves and washrooms.
We have implemented additional deep cleaning routines in all areas of our markets.
